First, it is important to understand that every dog is unique and has its own personality/temperament which is determined by their genetics/lineage and their environmental upbringing.  When deciding the breed of dog you want as a pet, it is critical in doing your homework. Based on the breed of dog, you may be getting more dog than you were bargaining for. For example, border collies are known as “working dogs” and need a lot of exercise and mental stimulation. If the owner is not home often and the dog is not given enough exercise, the dog is more likely to express negative behaviors. Due to their genetics, some breeds are known to be more hyperactive, stubborn, etc. which can lead to specific challenges when training the dog.

Before creating a customized plan for your dog it is very important to understand specific variables that may be effecting your dog’s behavior. These variables can be very complex in how they intertwine with each other, but the more information you have the more likely the training plan will succeed.
